The positive effects of vitamin D3 + K2 on diabetes and bone health.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a common metabolic disease that causes chronic hyperglycemia and impairs insulin sensitivity. These changes can lead to impaired bone health. In this study, researchers examined the effects of vitamin D3 and K2 on the health of T2DM patients.
Why vitamin D3 and K2?
Vitamin D3 + K2 play a crucial role in the body. Vitamin D3 supports the absorption of calcium and promotes bone health. Vitamin K2, on the other hand, is responsible for regulating calcium metabolism and contributes to the activation of proteins important for bone health.
The study:
A randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 40 patients between 30 and 70 years of age examined how vitamin D3 + K2 supplementation affected the health of T2DM patients. The study is entitled "Effect of supplementation with vitamins D3 and K2 on undercarboxylated osteocalcin and insulin serum levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus" and was conducted by JI Aguayo-Ruiz et al. carried out.
Results of the study:
The results of the study were promising. After three months of treatment, a significant improvement in various metabolic parameters was observed. These included a decrease in blood glucose levels, insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), the proportion of functional pancreatic beta cells and blood pressure.
A decrease in undercarboxylated osteocalcin levels was also noted in the group that received vitamin D3. In the vitamin K2 group, there was a decrease in blood glucose levels and HOMA-IR value, but also an increase in carboxylated osteocalcin levels. The group that received both vitamins showed similar positive results as the individual vitamin groups.
Why this combination?
Why should you choose the combination of vitamin D3 + K2? The answer lies in the synergistic effect of these vitamins. Vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium, while vitamin K2 ensures that calcium is efficiently incorporated into the bones and is not deposited in the arteries or other tissues. This makes the combination particularly effective in supporting the health of people with type 2 diabetes.
Conclusion:
This study provides important insights into how vitamin D3 + K2 supplementation can improve the health of people with type 2 diabetes. The results suggest that these vitamins may lower blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and promote bone health. However, it is important to note that dietary supplements should always be taken in consultation with a doctor.
