Home remedy for diarrhea: carrot soup according to Moro

Moro's carrot soup is a proven home remedy for diarrhea based on natural ingredients. It helps to remove pathogens from the intestines and at the same time compensate for the loss of fluids and minerals. Thanks to the nutrients it contains, it also supports a healthy intestinal mucosa. This simple and effective soup is an excellent addition to the measures prescribed by the doctor for diarrhea.

A proven household remedy since 1908

This carrot soup helped many children at the beginning of the 20th century, when diarrhea was still one of the most common causes of death. The pediatrician Ernst Moro developed this soup, which has been used successfully to treat diarrhea since 1908. Thanks to its special preparation, it saved the lives of many children. However, with the advent of antibiotics, it fell into oblivion. Today it is making a comeback and is once again appreciated by adults too.

How does carrot soup work?

Diarrhea often occurs when harmful bacteria dock onto certain receptors on the intestinal wall. Cooking the carrots for a long time (at least 60 minutes) creates small sugar molecules, so-called oligosaccharides. These are similar to the receptors on the intestinal wall, so that the diarrhea pathogens dock onto these molecules and are excreted. The soup also provides the body with important minerals and fluids that are lost through diarrhea. The beta-carotene (provitamin A) contained in the carrots supports a healthy intestinal mucosa.

The recipe: Carrot soup according to Moro

Ingredients:

  • 500 g carrots (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 liter of water
  • 3 g salt (about 1 level teaspoon)

Preparation:

  1. Peel the carrots sparingly and cut them into large pieces.
  2. Place in a pot with 1 liter of water and cook for at least one to one and a half hours.
  3. Puree with a blender or pass through a sieve.
  4. Top up with boiling water to a total of 1 liter.
  5. Add 3 g of salt (about 1 level teaspoon).

Tip: The long cooking time is crucial! This is the only way for the oligosaccharides to form, which bind to the diarrhea pathogens and render them harmless. It is recommended to eat 5-6 portions a day, spread over the day.

Enjoy your meal and get well soon!
